FAQS

What documents are required to get started?

You will need to provide the standard documents for the renewal of a student residence permit: passport (with current visa), current residence permit, proof of enrollment at your school, proof of residence of less than 3 months, proof of residence of less than 3 months, identity photos, etc.

You will also need to prove your financial resources for the coming year. Studely simplifies this part for you by providing you with the required balance certificate, and our advisors will precisely indicate the documents to be collected according to your personal situation.

Is legal assistance really free?

Absolutely. Administrative and legal support is included at no additional cost for all students who have subscribed to the Studely balance certificate.

In other words, for €350 you not only benefit from the financial certificate, but also from all the advice and actions of our experts to secure your residence permit — no surprises on billing, it's all inclusive.

What happens if there is no response from the prefecture?

If the prefecture is slow to respond or does not provide news, Studely does not leave you alone in the face of uncertainty. We mobilize our legal assistance at no cost: online consultation with a partner lawyer, sending an official reminder letter to the prefecture, and taking care of a possible administrative appeal.

Your file will not be forgotten; we ensure that the authorities process your request as soon as possible.

What should I do if my file is incomplete?

Don't worry: before any official submission, our specialists check your file in detail. If parts are missing or do not conform, we will report this to you immediately and help you get them.

You will receive a clear list of documents to add and our tips for collecting them. The objective: a 100% complete and compliant file, the first time.

How long does it take to get the balance certificate?

Once your file is completed and your funds deposited into Studely's secure account, the balance certificate is generally issued within 24 to 48 hours.

We know that deadlines matter: you will therefore very quickly have in hand this essential financial document for your request for an extension of stay.

What happens if my request is refused?

In case of refusal of your renewal by the prefecture (which is rare with a well-prepared file), Studely remains at your side until the end. Our lawyers will take the necessary actions to defend your case: free appeal to the prefecture, or litigation before the administrative courts if appropriate.

Although the final decision is up to the administration, you will have put all the odds on your side thanks to a solid case and the support of professionals. Whatever happens, you don't face this challenge alone — we support you in exploring the latest options or preparing possible alternatives.

Can I use my funds after the certificate is issued?

Yes. The funds you deposit via Studely to obtain the certificate are not blocked. Once the certificate is issued, you maintain total flexibility: you can withdraw or use your money at any time according to your needs.

Studely serves as a temporary guarantor with the prefecture, but your money remains yours, available as soon as you need it again.

How do I pay the €350?

The payment of the 350€ is made safely when subscribing to our balance certificate. As soon as you make an appointment, we will guide you step by step: creating your Studely account, choosing the renewal of a residence permit offer.

You will receive a confirmation as soon as your file is validated and can then deposit the funds for the certificate according to our instructions (SEPA transfer, local deposit, etc., depending on your country of origin, etc., depending on your country of origin).

FAQS

What is a Studely blocked account?

The Studely blocked account is a secure solution that allows international students to prove that they have sufficient financial resources to the embassy or municipality:

  • Obtaining a Student Visa (Type D)
  • Renewing a residence permit in Belgium
  • Application for a job search after completion of studies

You deposit an amount in advance, which is then paid back to you each month to cover your expenses (accommodation, food, transportation, etc.).

⚠️ Please note: the blocked account is not used to pay your university registration fees (minerval).

How much should I deposit?

The amount depends on:

  • The number of months covered (usually between 5 and 12 months)

The minimum is calculated monthly and may vary depending on the academic year. For the 2026/2027 academic year, it amounts to 1,062 euros net per month.

Studely will provide you with the exact amount based on your situation using the following simulator: https://avi.studely.com/tools/price

Opening a Belgian bank account depends on administrative procedures and generally requires a residence permit.

Can I receive my monthly payments on a non-European account?

No.

The monthly payments are paid exclusively into your European Studely account.

In the event of force majeure, it is possible to pay the monthly instalment into the European account of the student himself or that of a third party (subject to the prior signature of a power of attorney signed by the student).

Can I request an advance transfer in case of emergency?

Yes.

Each student is entitled to one request for an "exceptional transfer" per year.

A form to be requested from Studely must be completed and justified to justify the request.

This form can also be used to report a delay in payment during the process of creating or finalizing the blocked account.

You can use the following link: https://www.studely.com/en/remboursement

This amount must be increased by 10% for each additional dependent family member of the foreign national being joined, regardless of whether this family member already legally resides in Belgium or is applying for family reunification.

Do I have to make a single transfer?

No. The total amount can be paid in several instalments.

  • The Blocked Account Certificate will only be generated once the full amount has been received in the Studely account.

How do I apply for a STUDELY blocked account certificate to demonstrate a financing plan during the admission phase in certain schools in Belgium?

For some schools (EAFC UCCLE, EAFC Namur-cadets, EAFC Jean-meunier, ULB, Uliège, etc.), a financing plan must be demonstrated by the student during the admission phase, generally in January.

Studely offers two solutions for this type of financing for the 2026/2027 academic year:

  • OPTION 1 (Prior Attestation – Partial Payment)

Deposit (min. 20% of the total amount of the deposit, i.e. 2549€ + Studely service fee 350€)

Balance to be paid after admission

  • OPTION 2 (Prior Attestation – Full Payment)

Total payment (Total amount deposit 12 744 € + Studely service fee 350 €)

This type of application (partial or total payment) must be submitted by completing the following form available by clicking on THIS LINK

When will I receive my certificate for the visa or renewal?

The Certificate is obtained within a maximum of 48 hours working days, after:

  • Validation of the student's documents in the app, including the passport and the letter of admission or enrolment in a school in Belgium.
  • Receipt of funds (total amount of deposit and Studely service fee).

The blocked account certificates that we generate are in French and English and we insert a verification method via a QR Code that ensures authenticity through the unique verification code we generate: https://www.studely.com/en/controle.

This implies that the contract is signed between the student and Studely beforehand.

⚠️ Proof of transfer is not enough: the funds must be credited.

How will I receive my money each month?

Once in Belgium:

  1. Via the STUDELY app, you activate the receipt of your first monthly payment.
  1. You click on "Receive my first monthly payment".
  1. You complete the requested information.

The procedure takes about 5 minutes.

The monthly payments are:

Sent between the 25th and the end of each month.

For example: the monthly payment for the month of October 2026 will be generated on October 25 and sent between October 25 and October 31 only on your payment account in the Studely App.

WARNING: Transfers are usually instantaneous, but it may take a few days to arrive in your Studely payment account.

You will then receive your first transfer within 48 hours.

The dates are fixed and cannot be brought forward.

Can I get all the money back at once?

No.

The regulations require a monthly payment to guarantee your financial autonomy throughout the academic year.

How do I activate and use my Studely card?

The Studely card is linked to your payment account that can be accessed through the mobile app.

It allows you to:

  • Track your spending
  • Receive your transfers
  • Make your payments on a daily basis

Features:

  • International Mastercard
  • Usable in more than 210 countries
  • Contactless payment
  • Sécurisation 3D Secure

The card can be ordered before your departure and will be received upon arrival in Belgium.

Does the escrow account pay my university fees?

No.

It is only used to prove your means of subsistence.

The registration fee must be paid directly to your institution.

Is my money secure?

Yes.

Funds are kept in a secure environment and used only according to the terms of your contract.

Is Studely travel insurance recognised in the municipalities in Belgium?

Yes.

When you arrive in Belgium, you must submit it to the municipality to order your residence permit. It is an essential document. You must take private health insurance on site with an additional cost.

Once the 3 months of the StudCorp insurance have expired, you must take out a mutual health insurance in Belgium which is mandatory for all international students. We recommend health insurance with the Belgian mutual insurance company Partenamut.

Can I receive money from Africa through the STUDELY app?

Yes.

You can fund your Studely payment account or receive money from the 16 countries in Africa where we have representations, for the payment of your tuition fees or rent for example.

This service is independent of the blocked account. More details on this link: https://www.studely.com/en/recevoir-de-largent

What should I do in case of early departure?

The regulations require us to make monthly payments in order to guarantee your financial autonomy during the defined period.

However, if you plan to leave Belgium earlier than expected and would like to receive the remaining balance of your blocked account, you must provide proof that your municipality of residence has officially registered your declaration of departure.

Please note that we reserve the right to contact the Immigration Office for validation before proceeding with the transfer of your remaining balance.
