What do we call language level?

The term “language level” refers to the degree of proficiency or proficiency in a particular language, as spoken or written by an individual. It is a measure of a person's ability to understand, express, and communicate in that language.

Language levels are frequently used to assess and describe the language proficiency level of a speaker in a given context.

2. Level A2 - Elementary : You can participate in simple conversations and understand common phrases about familiar topics.

What is the level of French required for foreign students?

If you are enrolling in a course provided in English, fluency in French is not a requirement. However, the institution in question can assess your English level.

On the other hand, if you are taking courses in French, foreign students must provide proof of their proficiency in French.

The student can obtain this proof by taking an official French exam, such as DELF, DALF, TCF or TEF, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Foreign students who have obtained their French baccalaureate diploma in an AEFE school (Agency for the Teaching of French Abroad) are exempt from this requirement.

Ideally, a B1 or B2 level is recommended for undergraduate and graduate studies, especially in humanities and social sciences. Level B2 is required for first-year candidates as part of the DAP (application for prior admission). Some higher education institutions in France may require a higher level, C1 or C2, for specific programs.
